Wow. That was a frustrating game.  The boys actually got to Stephen Strasburg in the first forcing him to throw 28 pitches and scoring two runs in the process.  It looked like it could be a surprisingly good game against a very tough pitcher.  And then the bottom of the first happened.  Dan Haren makes his first appearance at Nationals park playing against his former team today and it did not get off to a good start.  Haren started off giving up a single to Denard Span but then got Anthony Rendon to fly out to left field.  No problem. Everything is cool. Then everything quickly became not cool.  Danny boy proceeded to get hit…….hard.  Dan managed to give back the lead and it looked for a moment like it was going to be another long and horrible game.  But miracle of miracles, Haren struck out Espinosa swinging and got Frandsen to pop up.

For the rest of the game, Haren actually pitched rather well, settling into a groove and going six innings, allowing only one more run.  Too bad about that run though as it would be the difference maker.   Stephen Strasburg remembered that he is Stephen Strasburg and shut down the Dodgers for 6+ more innings.  Bummer man. Total bummers.  That would be all the scoring either team would do and the Dodgers would drop another road series after their sweep of the Twins.

Oh and Brian Wilson came in to pitch the 8th and did Brian Wilson things and put runners on.  However, he managed to get out of the inning unscathed.  Something is definitely not right with him.

Cant really complain too much though.  They went 5-4 on this road trip that was rife with a lot of bizarre stuff.  Snowy rain in Minnesota. Rainy rain in DC. Double headers and rain delays galore.  Yet they managed to squeak out a winning road trip.  I will take that.  Time to go home and lick our wounds….oh wait, no time for that.  The giants are coming to town.  Hopefully the Dodgers are about to get hot.  It would be nice to win a few for the home crowd boys, even if only 10 people in Los Angeles are able to actually watch it on TV.

Here is today’s recap image. Poor Danny Haren.  Shell shocked from the horror that was his time with the Nationals last year.

Dan Haren can’t escape the ghosts of DC. The horror……..the horror!
